The Women's Foundation is the leading catalyst in Hong Kong for collaborative efforts to drive women's and girls' advancement. We have been at the forefront of efforts to improve the lives of women and girls in Hong Kong since our founding in 2004.
We aspire to conduct ground-breaking research; to run innovative and impactful community programmes and we engage in education and advocacy in the pursuit of three main goals:
- Challenging gender stereotypes
- Empowering women in poverty to achieve a better quality of life for themselves and their families
- Growing the number of women in decision-making and leadership positions.
As we enter our 20th year, we are proud of our inclusively led, ecosystem approach. From the classroom to the boardroom, we support women and girls from all backgrounds to thrive. Our commitment to long-term holistic change includes engaging individuals of all genders, including men and boys, as allies. Together, we are tackling a diverse body of critical issues and building a gender equal Hong Kong.
Our Programmes and Research:
Girls Go Tech Programme: Building a pipeline of local female STEM talent so they are positioned to take advantage of opportunities in a digital future. We accomplish this through introducing underprivileged secondary school girls to the confidence and skills that will set them up for future study or careers in tech.
Young Allies: The United Nations has emphasised that "the engagement of men and boys in achieving gender equality is critical." The Young Allies Programme aims to foster a cohort of young men who become long-term advocates to embrace and support gender equality through their words and actions and ultimately become champions of gender equality to drive social change.
Teach For Good: This initiative addresses gaps in resources and learning support that create challenges for local students from underprivileged backgrounds to learn English. Corporate and TWF volunteers act as English tutors and mentors to support senior secondary school girls’ academic and career growth.
Marginalised Women:
This initiative aims to empower marginalised women to cope with life stress, build positive mindsets and life skills for a rapidly changing environment. Participants will receive support towards developing greater resilience and meaningful interactions with the broader economy and society.
Mentoring Programme for Women Leaders: Going into its 16th year, this leadership programme focuses on the personal and professional development of women leaders in order to create advocates for change. The ultimate goal of the Programme is to increase the number of women in policy and decision-making roles across sectors.
Male Allies Programme: A group of male and female champions who drive concrete actions that create more inclusive environments within their organisations and across the Hong Kong community.
Women To Watch (WTW): To address the gender imbalance of board appointments in Hong Kong, TWF has launched our Women to Watch Platform - a group of board-aspiring or board experienced women in Hong Kong. This online platform aims to give increased visibility to women and connect them with board opportunities.
Advancing Women Leaders: Boardroom and C-Suite Leadership Programme: Brings together decision makers and women leaders to create opportunities for women to advance to senior leadership, connecting them to critical business networks in Hong Kong. Participants also explore essential leadership qualities necessary for the transition to C-suite and boardroom roles.
