About the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society
Founded in 1957, we are the member of Birdlife International,
the East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP) and the
International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). As a charitable
organization in Hong Kong with a vision of “people and birds living in
harmony while nature continues to thrive”, we are devoted to promoting
the appreciation and conservation of wild birds through research,
habitat management, environmental monitoring and education.
About our works
We actively engage in various bird research projects, including
baseline surveys and waterbird monitoring in Inner Deep Bay, along the
coast of South Lantau, and in Hong Kong waters. We also conduct global
surveys for the Black-faced Spoonbill and local breeding surveys for
terns, and contribute to the conservation work of endangered bird
species such as Black-faced Spoonbill, Yellow-breasted Bunting,
Spoon-billed Sandpiper and Chinese Crested Tern. Additionally, we
recognize the importance and participate in the management of habitats
for birds, areas include Deep Bay fishponds, Ho Sheung Heung farmlands
and Shui Hau wetlands in South Lantau. Through environmental education
and conservation advocacy, we aim to promote the concept of
bird-friendly cities and hope to attract more birds to breed and stay
