The Gurkha Cemeteries Trust ( GCT) is a non-profit charitable organisation. The objective of the Trust is to establish a non-profit-making educational and community institute to promote Gurkha culture, history and values in Hong Kong. The Trust would also liaise with similar organisations to further its objectives, including developing educational and promotional resources. The Trust also helps to maintain Gurkha cemeteries and heritage in Hong Kong for history, cultural and educational purposes.
One of our projects is to preserve and promote the Gurkha history, its heritage and Nepalese culture. GCT organises annual events such as Purkha Diwas (Ancestor Memorial Day), Cultural Week (showcasing Nepalese culture as well as promoting the diversity of Hong Kong), Gurkha Arts and a history workshop.
Another project of GCT is GCT Educational Fund
(GCTEF) to provide alternative education programmes to
children of Gurkha descend who have problems adapting to the
education system and life in Hong Kong. The following programs are
being successfully implemented - Online High School Diploma, Online
Undergraduate, Parental & Community Education workshops and some
other educational forums.
GCT’s Project Impact
In the
8
years of this project, GCTEF has helped
15
students graduate with a high school diploma and
17
students enroll in online undergraduate bachelor’s degree
programs. This academic year,
2
students earned a high school diploma, and
5
students graduated with a bachelor’s degree.
On April 5, 2025, the GCT hosted Purkha Divas (Gurkha Memorial Day) to honor Gurkhas who lost their lives during both World Wars and while serving in Hong Kong. This ceremony was attended by a diverse group of community stakeholders, including: Ex-Gurkhas, Royal British Legion (RBL) in Hong Kong and China, Diplomats from various consulates, veteran uniformed organizations, schools and academic institutions.Gurkha history.

Child
Welfare Scheme (CWS) envisions a safe and
accessible pathway that successfully leads Nepal’s disadvantaged
children and young people from early childhood education to a
sustainable livelihood. CWS aims to reinforce this pathway so that
no child gets lost or diverted away from it as she grows into adulthood.
CWS was created by Douglas Maclagan who identified the many
unmet needs of women and children in Nepal and designed programmes
to address those needs. CWS’ growth over the years has been organic,
reacting to the needs of the communities and always in line with the
Government’s plans.
