Love 21 is a charity empowering the Down syndrome, autistic, and neurodiverse community to reach their full potential through sports, nutrition, and other holistic support programs.
As part of our holistic programme to address the needs of the caregivers and parents of our community, we have offered regular yoga classes for the caregivers in our community for the past five years. Currently, we host around three hours of yoga sessions per week for caregivers, as well as two hours of yoga/body movement classes for the entire family.
We offer different types of yoga to our community, starting with the introductory classes to the core strengthening yoga sessions designed to train and build muscles. In response to feedback and experiences from the caregivers of our community saying they rarely have time to take care of themselves, one of the primary goals of the parent yoga sessions is to create a space and environment for the parents to improve their wellness and mindfulness.
Testimonials have shown that our classes have had a lasting positive impact on the community.
One parent reported that our yoga classes “not only improved my physical health, but also improved my mental health, as I forget about my worries during class”. The parent who gave us the testimonial regularly participated in our parental classes, which includes yoga, dance, meditation, and more.
Another parent, who also actively participates in our yoga and parental programmes, expressed that she was able to “get to know and talk to other parents to share tips and advice on parenting on top of participating in the classes“.
At Love 21, we aim to build a strong community where members and families can provide support to each other, and our yoga classes, as well as other programmes, provide a medium for our community members to connect.
